Sitagliptin & Metformin Tablet is a dipeptidyl peptidase-4 (DPP-4) inhibitor and biguanide combination product indicated as an adjunct to diet and exercise to improve glycemic control in adults with type 2 diabetes mellitus. They help your pancreas produce more insulin, facilitate the effective use of insulin by the body, and reduce excess sugar that your liver makes. Together, they provide better control of blood sugar.

What is type 2 diabetes?

Type 2 diabetes is a condition in which your body does not make enough insulin, and the insulin that your body produces does not work as well as it should. Your body can also make too much sugar. When this happens, sugar (glucose) builds up in the blood.

Indication

Sitagliptin & metformin is used with a proper diet and exercise program to control high blood sugar in people with type 2 diabetes. Controlling high blood sugar helps prevent kidney damage, blindness, nerve problems, loss of limbs, and sexual function problems.
Note: Sitagliptin and Metformin Tablet should not be used in patients with type 1 diabetes mellitus or for the treatment of diabetic ketoacidosis

Mechanism of action

Sitagliptin is a member of the gliptin class of anti-diabetic medications. Its mechanism of action is through inhibition of dipeptidyl peptidase-4 (DPP-4), an enzyme that acts to degrade and inactivate glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1). Sitagliptin works by increasing the amount of insulin that your body makes. Insulin is the hormone that controls sugar levels in your blood.
